Kanteel Kinderopvang BV-KC Boschveld

Kantel BoschfeldWe are one facility of an organization with 36 locations. At all locations, about 2500-3000 kids in 170 groups attend day care and after school care.

We focus on the children’s individual development and teach them to socialize in the group. We want to create an environment where children can safely develop at their own pace.

We are busy developing the “Kindcentrum” as a whole. We want to create a place where children can grow up and develop from 0 till 13 years old – from both an educational and a didactic perspective. This includes a close partnership between school and day-care centre.

Some facts about day care and after school care:

  • open from 7.30 till 18:30 (day care and, in vacations, after school care)
  • open from 14:30 till 18:30 after school
  • children eat and sleep in the daycare, parents don’t have to bring anything – it’s all included
  • children get something to drink and eat after school (we prepare this)
  • we work with themes and different activities

Questions and Answers

What did you learn since you decided to participate in EQUIPE?  What has changed in your organisation?

My participation in the EQUIPE project has been very nice. I found the different systems in Germany and the Netherlands interesting. I kept considering that combining the two systems would be very nice! In Germany, there is very much consideration for the needs of the children and the safety of their homes and families are very important. On the other side, the children do have to move on to higher education at a much faster level and earlier age. In the Netherlands the children start sooner, there is less time for the families and the safety of the homes, but the child stays two years longer in the lower education before moving on to the higher education, and therefore has more time to develop confidence and ripen his brain.

For me, EQUIPE has given me a wake-up call in my approach to the children in my group; give them more freedom to experience themselves, they can handle the responsibility! I saw this at the german day-care centres and I found it very stimulating!

How will you continue to work on these topics? What are your next steps?

We have developed a new system for welcoming the children in our groups. We give the children more tasks to do in the mornings, which they enjoy very much! The approach to children and the necessity of giving them the safety they need by being there for the children, regardless of the morning-program, are important eye-openers that we have implemented in our working methods.
